The Southern Sector Inner Ring Road, off Adambakkam River Bridge, could become an accident-prone zone if the authorities concerned do not take steps at the earliest to erect traffic signals to regulate vehicular movement.

Vehicles coming from Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road and Thillai Ganga Nagar subway have to slow down before the end of the bridge thoroughfare, as vehicles from Vanuvampet and Madipakkam, proceeding towards St. Thomas Mount Railway Station, NGO Colony and Brindavan Nagar, take an unexpected right turn.

As a result, vehicles coming from GST Road face the danger of colliding with one another. Two-wheeler riders and bus drivers coming from Vanuvampet do not bother to stop before proceeding towards Adambakkam and Velachery.

Similarly, vehicles coming from Medavakkam Main Road, Adambakkam and St. Thomas Mount take a sudden left turn, therefore, vehicles coming from the Bridge are prone to risks.

“I make it a point to slow down the vehicle before the bridge thoroughfare ends as vehicles coming from Madipakkam and Ullagaram turn rashly to proceed towards Velachery Main Road. Since the road is free, vehicle users tend to drive rashly without displaying any concern for others,” S. Anand, a resident of Thillai Ganga Nagar, said.

Two-wheeler riders coming from Inner Ring Road travel in the wrong direction to proceed towards Nanganallur and Vanuvampet halting free movement of vehicular traffic from Nanganallur and Madipakkam proceeding towards GST Road.

Pedestrians also demand a walkers’ signal as the speeding vehicles do not bother to stop. We have to run and dodge the speeding vehicles to cross from one side to another, they added. “It is high time a traffic signal was erected here before any fatal accident happens,” opined road-users.
