Last Saturday’s one-way arrangement on the Mada Streets — where all vehicles, except buses, were diverted from Luz to go through North Mada Street to take a right and go to East Mada Street, another right and on to South Mada Street and then join R K Mutt Road to go towards Mandaveli — did not work. An experiment that even Traffic Department agree, failed.
“It was only a trial. Not all trials can be successful. We are still studying what changes can be effected to decongest the Mada Streets,” said S. Rajendran, DC Traffic East.
“We are open to suggestions and the public are welcome to help us,” said Rajendran. But, most residents of Mylapore want traffic along the Mada streets regularised first. To do that, encroachments on the roads have to be removed and commercial establishments should make provisions for parking.
A small group of Mylaporeans that initiated an online campaign on >www.change.org [ >http://bit.ly/Mylapore-Mada-Streets-Petition ] hope this traffic arrangement by the police last week will encourage more residents to come forward and participate in measures to improve the neighbourhood.
