A long-pending demand of the residents of Jayalakshmi Nagar and Krishna Nagar, Zamin Pallavaram, Uzhaippali Nagar, Moovarasampet, Madipakkam, and Subramania Nagar and Anbu Nagar, Pallavaram and Keezhkattalai have at last been met. Residents have thanked M. Chandrakesavan, councillor, ward 13, Pallavapuram municipality, for it. For the past 50 years, the residents were demanding a link road connecting these residential localities.

“The residents of Jayalakshmi Nagar and Krishna Nagar would have to take a detour of around five kilometres while having to cast their votes at their respective polling booths during the elections and while having to visit a burial ground near Subham Nagar,” R. Kannan, a resident of Krishna Nagar, said.

“The link road project seemed to be in a limbo for the past five decades. The one-km metal link road, Dr. Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Link Road, is now nearing completion. Also, other civic amenities such as drinking water connections, underground drainage system and streetlights will be provided,” Chandrakesavan said.

The councillor assured that the road was not laid on the bund of the Eri. “It comes under the jurisdiction of the Pallavapuram Municipality. Moreover, on the side of Moovarsampet Eri Karai, a park will be developed.”

“The residents of Subham Nagar and Subramania Nagar had to travel more than five kilometres to go to Pallavaram and Meenambakkam through Union Carbide Colony, Kutchery Malai Kottai and Old Pallavaram. Once work on the link road is completed, they will have to travel only for two to three kilometres to go to Meenambakkam and Pallavaram. In another six months, the metal link road will be replaced by tar road,” he pointed out.
