'Give me roads free of garbage'

Source segregation can make waste collection and disposal easier, writes Aishwarya Ashok

The change that I want to see in my area: two different bins with proper lids at every street. One of them should be earmarked for degradable wastes (kitchen waste) and the other for non-degradable wastes (plastics). Such a provision will make waste disposal easier and waste collection more effective.

At present, the stench of the garbage heaped along the streets and roadsides are strong. We can’t blame the Corporation alone for this. Residents must share the blame.

People fail to segregate their home wastes and mix food leftovers, papers, plastics, batteries and other things.
