All working (young) mothers face this problem after the stipulated period of maternity leave is over. “Who will take care of the baby when I am away at work?”
“Preethi Sunder Ram and Rama Srinivas, practicing professionals with more than 20 years of experience in the field of childcare, education and training, seem to have an answer. Together they plan to launch child care centre which will work 24 x 7.
Rama is an accomplished educator who has worked with premier educational institutions and has also been a training consultant and content developer at Ma Foi Consultants. Preethi has been associated with corporate firms and has hands-on experience in running a play school-cum-day care.
With a combination of good business acumen and a service oriented mind, both are keen on providing the right solution from cradle to corporate in today's changing times.
Together they will be launching Yukiko Child Care Centre which will take care of infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers (to children of age-group eight months to seven years). The centre will be of a high standard with cleanliness and hygiene as top priorities. The faculty will comprise paediatric nurses, child psychologist and early childhood educators.
As the centre will have tie-ups with hospitals, tackling emergency situations will be taken care of. Children will listen to lullabies, stories and rhymes. Kids will be taken care of beyond the stipulated eight hours, at extra cost. Orientation workshops will also be held for parents.
Centre for learning
Mahavidyasala is a centre which the women have been running for more than two years now. It is a centre for guided learning for children above the age of seven. “The classes are not for achievers or toppers but for all those whose potential needs to be brought out,” says Rama.
She says that the teaching here caters to every child's need for which the centre spends three hours for five days a week.
Children of higher classes need to spend more time. Children can directly come here from school, have refreshments, get their doubts cleared, finish assignments and write periodical tests. “Not only teaching, but tests and assignments are also personalised,” assures Rama. “Parents love our conceptualised teaching and Sheila Vijayakumar is one who supports me to handle the students,” she adds.
The centre has special sessions called systematic mathematics on Fridays and Saturdays. It is a bridge course (taken for two hours) where children can strengthen their basics in the subject.
English skill
Wordsworth is another centre run by them. It is useful to those, who want to communicate well in English, who are aspiring to enter the corporate world or for preparing for higher education.
It is meant for youth and those on the threshold of a career and even home makers.
Rama and Preethi say that through this, youth can acquire life skills and activity based skills. Coaching classes for IELTS and TOEFL are also handled here.
Personal Excellence is another workshop run by the centre for young adults and kids. Interested candidates will be taken for out-bound training. They will be involved in a lot of team activities to develop leadership skill, problem solving skills and decision making. Through trekking and field trips, which are part of this programme, the participants are bound to develop sensitivity towards environment.
As English language communication is essential, anyone can enrol in any of these courses, which will be customised according to specific needs.
The centre also trains candidates to write BULATS (Cambridge-based language exam conducted for corporates); YLE (Young Learners English) and BEC (Business English Course).
The centre can be reached at Marina Square Aptartments, L3 Basement, 26 A, Santhome High Road, Mylapore. For details, call 4201 9631 / 4211 9917 / 98840 36630.
