The majority of residents in Balaji Nagar, Varadharajapuram, Mudichur, are upset over the inordinate delay in the execution of road-laying work.

The work, scheduled to start a couple of months ago, was delayed due to shortage of workers, to be provided by the contractors, residents alleged. “We have made complaints to the elected representatives of the village panchayat,” a senior citizen said.

Residents complain that huge loads of stones and mud were dumped on the road and left as such. “This being the monsoonal season, officials say it might take another month to commence the work,” residents said.

Due to mounds of construction materials, people find it difficult to take their vehicles out, residents lamented. As the driveways leading to their houses have been broken down, some have stopped using their cars and a few have parked their vehicles outside. “At least 30 plots comprising independent houses and apartment complexes are on this road and delay in completing the work is testing people’s patience,” one of the residents said.

However, Kundrathur Panchayat Union officials promised to look into the problem and commence the work once the monsoon is over.
