It was Sunday and I was able to hear ‘jingle-bells’ being played somewhere. I went out to check where the sound was coming from. It was Reon, my friend in the opposite block, who was playing the song on his keyboard.
I was absorbed in the notes that came from the keys. I asked him, “Hey Reon, you are playing the song perfectly. I also want to play the keyboard. Where are you learning to play the instrument?” He said, “I am learning from an academy at Choolaimedu.”
I felt that it would be nice if we had an activity centre in Kodambakkam, where keyboard is taught. It should also teach other things, including mridangam, dance, music and yoga. Such a centre will be a great source of encouragement for kids, helping them develop an interest in the arts. And it will be much useful if they conduct the classes during weekends. A few centres hold such classes on weekdays after 5 p.m. Most of us coming back from school around that time find it difficult to attend such classes.
