A public toilet located on Venkatanarayana Road in Thyagaraya Nagar has been locked for the last two months causing inconvenience to the public. The toilet which is right opposite Natesan Park was of great help to the public visiting a temple, located 100 meters away, and also to sportspersons who used a ground behind it.

K. Lakshmi, who practises at the ground, said, “The toilet remained locked for two months for unknown reasons. If I have to change my clothes, I now have to cross the road and go to the toilet inside the Natesan Park. I play here for 3 hours a day and it’s really miserable having no access to a toilet during monthly periods,” she added.

A pushcart vendor who sells juice, outside the park, said there are two e-toilets on the same road but they are not positioned at a prominent place. “These toilets are places inside a lane which nobody notices. So, this public toilet is the one which people look for,” he said. Because this toilet is closed, people urinate in and around the ground which school and college students use to have their tournaments.

Joggers and walkers in this area said access to toilets was a basic human right and the government should look at reviving the other toilets that have been closed in a similar manner.
