What if someone told you that you can get a Gucci tie for Rs. 500 or a Rs. 25,000 worth saree for Rs. 4000. Not the replicas or defected ones but the original ones, as good as new. R.A. Puram resident Gayathre Rajam has come up with a method that makes such a thing possible — all for charity.

This is the second edition of “Giving Back from the Heart” sale.

A yoga teacher, entrepreneur and a cycling enthusiast, she is also popular in Chennai’s social circles. She realised that most of her friends had many high-end brands in their closets that they hardly wore.

“We often buy dresses and wear them only once. These are high-end brands and we just can’t give them to anybody. I thought why not use them for charity. I asked my friends to donate all the clothes they don’t wear, price them reasonably and put them out for sale. Whatever we make of them, we give it to charity.”

The sale will take place at Gayathre’s residence and right now her hall is stocked with clothes, accessories, furniture and paintings. “I’m very careful that everything we sell is of high quality. As soon as we get the clothes, I scan them carefully and then price them with the seller’s name. I have hired hangers and racks for the convenience of the buyers.”

Zara, Mango, Gucci are the some of the brands that will be present here. “I have so many designer sarees that will be up for sale. This is the second edition. This time, it’s bigger. I have already zeroed in on clothes and accessories that I plan to buy and I will be satisfied that the money is going for a good cause,” she says. All proceeds from the sale will go to Alwarpet-based organisation AIM for Seva that works with underprivileged children. The sale will be on April 12, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at 27, Sathyanarayana Avenue (Off Boat Club Road), R.A. Puram.
