Hundreds of people in Jammu & Kashmir were left homeless because of the recent floods. Many individuals and social organisations have come forward to help the victims.

Raindropss, a Chennai-based social organisation that spreads social awareness messages to the public through entertainment and media, has done its bit too. They initiated a social media campaign,  ‘Raindropss Kashmir’s 100 Rs Challenge Initiative’,  to raise money for the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

“We launched a social media campaign where we requested people, through our Facebook page, to donate at least Rs. 100. We asked them to write a cheque to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, click a selfie with the cheque and post it on social networking sites. Many came forward and paid generously,” says Aravind, founder & creative head, Raindropss.

From college students to NRIs, people from all age-groups and financial backgrounds have showed interest.

“Many school and college students don’t have bank accounts. We collected money from them and sent a Demand Draft. Our aim was to collect Rs. 70,000 but we’re glad we managed to collect Rs. 80,000,” he says.

One of their upcoming projects is to launch their annual calendar featuring achievers across various walks of life, to raise money for the education of children with HIV.
