YouTube takes another step towards becoming a full service online video outlet

Popular video-sharing website YouTube is set to rent out a “small collection” of movies beginning with five films from last year’s and this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

The video sharing website by Google will take another step towards becoming a full service online video outlet and include movies like The Cove , One Too Many Mornings , Homewrecker , Children of Invention and Bass Ackwards , which it will rent for $3.99 each, Contactmusic reported.

However, they must be viewed within 48 hours of downloading.

“Making content available for rent will give our partners unprecedented control over the distribution of their work — they can decide the price of their videos and the rental duration. They can decide when and where their content is available; and they can keep 100 percent of their rights,” YouTube said on its website.

The website, which accounts for the lion’s share of online video viewing, nevertheless loses hundreds of millions of dollars annually, according to many analysts.
