Child artist Anmol, who plays the role of young Ramanujan in Camphor Cinema’s eponymous upcoming film on the math genius directed by Gnana Rajasekaran, says it was almost surreal to be chosen for the role on the very day that he learnt of the genius in school.
“It was a dream come true. I got the opportunity to play the role of this great mathematician on the very day I learnt about him in school,” he says, adding, he knew very little about Ramanujan till he started shooting.
“After getting to play the role and while I was shooting for the movie, I realised how great Ramanujan’s achievements were. I was not a brilliant student in math, but playing him inspired me to follow in his footsteps.”
Eleven-year-old Anmol, who is from Chennai, is not new to the arc lights. “I have recently acted in V Z Durai’s 6 with Shaam and Archana, in Vidiyum Mun with Pooja Umashankar, in Kalyana Samayal Sadham with R. S. Prasanna and Lekha Washington, and in Vadu (in pre-production phase), in which I am the lead actor. I'll be working on three more films,” he says, rattling off names. The boy has also been featured in 20 advertisements.
But Ramanujan has been special. “I have worked hard for this movie as I had dialogues both in Tamil and English, especially the song we shot at a temple. Suhasini ma’am (Ratnam) helped me with the lyrics of the song and Rajasekaran sir (director), who is an expert in trigonometry, helped me do the sums in the movie!”
Anmol says working with the highly experienced cast and crew has been wonderful.
“I thought it would be difficult to work with these extremely talented people, but the love of these established actors, director and senior crew members made this experience wonderful.”
