Movie: The Karate Kid Cast: Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan
What would happen if an American kid falls for a Chinese girl in the Forbidden City? This is how a brilliant movie on martial arts is built.
The movie is bold and vibrant with a perfect mix of action, emotion and passion. Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith form an impeccable combo which grabs the viewer in every frame.
The duo
Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) moves from Detroit to Beijing since his mom gets transferred. As he falls for Mei Ying, he invites trouble. Thus he makes enemies with a gang of guys (well trained in karate), and with his class bully (Cheng).
Mr. Hans (Jackie Chan) comes to rescue him and teaches him and others what real karate is! The movie has clearly emphasizes the power of modern China, their martial arts and medicinal therapies.
Performances
Jaden is the most promising hero of this decade. The work he has done for this movie shows his attitude both on screen and off screen. His acting is flawless.
At times his acting style is reminiscent of his dad, only being better than him for this age! Jackie Chan is the man we knew only as a comical martial arts hero.
But Harald has given him a different hat this time. He hardly laughs. But it's hard for us not to notice what a great actor he is! He not only teaches Dre karate but also about life.
Cheng has great potential and brings fervour to the movie. Mei Ying lives to her name as the beautiful! Dre's mother is the perfect portrayal of the mother of our times. Harald Zwart has given us a kid who must be watched for now and in future!
Bottomline: Nin xihuan zhei haizi (You'll like this kid)
