Vishnuvardhana (Kannada)
Cast: Sudeep, Bhavana, Priyamani, Arun Sagar, Sonu Sood
Direction: P. Kumar
Rumoured to be a biopic on matinee idol Vishnuvardhan and embroiled in controversy because of objections raised by the late actor's wife Bharati Vishnuvardhan, Vishnuvardhana , produced by Dwarakish, created curiosity among cine-goers. But, except an attempt to commercialise the popularity of the actor, the film offers nothing to the audience.
The main actors of the films are named after Vishnuvardhan and Bharati. The opening scene, where Sudeep thrashes goons in Apthamitra style, and other scenes, where he refers to Vishnu as his idol, look like an attempt to project Sudeep as Vishnu's heir apparent. Beyond this, the film is nothing but a commercial potboiler to satiate the appetite of both Sudeep and Vishnu's fans.
The story revolves around a vagabond Vishnu (Sudeep), who handles the tricky situations he faces with wit and presence of mind. A washerman, he accidently gets his hands on the mobile phone belonging to underworld don Aadishesha (Sonu Sood). Thus begins a tale of ‘catch me if you can' as the don tries to retrieve his phone. The story takes a strange turn with the entry of Meera (Priyamani), Aadishesha's wife, who wants to settle scores with him.
Sudeep single-handedly carries the burden of the film. Arun Sagar, as his astrologer friend, supports him with his punchy dialogues. There is enough comic relief. Priyamani deserves appreciation. Dwarakish also appears in a small role.
