Rural Story, Gandhian message Vellai

What it is about…

Viswa Dream World’s Vellai is about how Gandhian principles are implemented in a village inhabited by 300 families. Produced by Ravichandran, the film is directed by Jughein, who also plays the lead role and has taken care of the story, screenplay and dialogue. He is ably supported by Uday, Suri, Supraja, Anu Krishna, Mahadevan and Kavitha Balaji. The camera work is by Prabhakar, the music by N.S. Varadarajan, re-recording by Sajan, editing by S.N.V.Subbu and art by Ramesh. The audio CD was released by Giridharilal Nagpal, president, Film Producers Guild, and the first copy was received by director-actor ‘Kalaipuli’ G.Sekaran. The function was presided over by Justice T.N. Vallinayagam. The producer and distributor J.V.Rukmangathan, actor Sona and entire film unit were present.

Music highlights : Vellai has five songs, the best being ‘Kathala Neeyagi Unnil’, written by Jughein and sung by Harish Ragavendra and Swetha. ‘Varungaiya Tholargale’, written by Kalaikumar and sung by Mugesh, is also good. ‘Attam Pattam Kondattam’ by the same lyricists and sung by Mathu and Thanjaiselvi is for the masses, while the melodious ‘Ine Oru Puthu Yugam’, written by Jughein, is rendered by Madhu Balakrishnan. ‘Kala Kala Kathadikuthu’ by the same lyricist and sung by Suchitra and Kamaraj is interesting.

What they say…

Producer Ravichandran: I am a software engineer from Ramanathapuram District, but am now settled in Singapore. I got involved in films mainly to help my friend Jughein. He is very talented and I feel he has a winner on his hands.

Director-hero Jughein: I worked as an assistant under Radha Bharathi and later, did a mega serial for Doordarshan, Chennai titled Sathya. After waiting for a suitable break, I started to working on a script and felt Vellai would be apt for my directorial debut. It is the story of how an individual wants to save a village through the teachings of Gandhi. I wanted to tell the world that Gandhi’s philosophy is relevant even today. As music director N.S. Varadharajan passed away in the middle of the film, we roped in Sajan, who has done a good job of the re-recording.
