They’ve made for fabulous pictures. They’ve lived it up in style. They know they are hot and sought after. Then comes a tear that seems impossible to repair. Celebrity couple splits have nothing poetic about them. In fact, more often than not, they get ugly. With the Preity Zinta-Ness Wadia case getting murkier by the day, harshikaa udasi takes a look at celebrities saying adieu, sometimes not so amicably after all.

Preity Zinta-Ness Wadia

She is an actor, he, an industrialist. He loved her and so did she. Along came his mother with some not-so-kind remarks about her son marrying a zebra if he so wishes. It was probably a sign of the times and the Preity-Ness love story came to naught. They still had that joint stake in the IPL team Kings XI Punjab and they carried on supposedly peacefully, even appearing friendly to the third eye. As it turns out, things were not as well as been shown because last week Preity accused Ness of molestation and intimidation. Ness has rubbished the charges as baseless. This is one mess the ‘rosy’ world of Bollywood could’ve done without.

Hrithik Roshan-Suzanne

Theirs was a wedding that seemed straight out of a film set. Hrithik, the ultimate star who rose to stardom with his first film, wed his sweetheart Suzanne. They went on to have two sons and the family seemed to be the epitome of perfection and love. That until the rise of a certain Barbara Mori. The Mexican model-actress is singled out for being the cause of the rift between the handsome couple. Suzanne has left his home months ago, but the Roshans kept denying the split. A week before their 13th wedding anniversary, the couple announced their split.

Karisma Kapoor-Sanjay Kapur

She was fresh out of a relationship with Abhishek Bachchan when Karisma Kapoor got married to Delhi-based Sanjay Kapur in 2003. There were rumours about Sanjay’s affairs and that reportedly led the actress to walk out of his home after their first child Samaira was born. A patch-up occurred soon after and their son Kiaan was born in 2010. But the split in their marriage was the talk of the town. The actress never answered questions about her husband and the divorce has been finalised now.

Anurag Kashyap-Kalki Koechlin

“Me and Kalki are separating. We are taking time off from each other to figure things out. We are not divorcing. We request the media to please respect our privacy and give us our space and not speculate.” So read a statement from Anurag Kashyap in November 2013. Straight and simple. Theirs was an unusual wedding to begin with. The 41-year-old director married his 29-year-old Dev.D star in 2011. But the marriage started falling apart when there was news of Anurag’s alleged affair with Huma Quereshi. The two have separated, not divorced. And continue cordially at least on the surface.

Chitrangada Singh-Jyoti Randhawa

With her first film, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi she swept people off their feet and the awards as well. Thereafter the road was not very smooth for Chitrangada. She did a film in 2005 and then in 2008 and yet again three years later. The reason seemed to be that her celebrity golfer husband Jyoti Singh Randhawa was not too keen on her film career. Nonetheless, after 2011, the lady has been an active part of Bollywood. While it was almost a given that theirs was a fractured relationship, Chitrangada never agreed to the reports. The couple finally divorced this year. Their five-year-old son Zorawar is reportedly in the custody of the actress.
