34 years later
In Manal Kayiru (1982), S. Ve. Shekher played a character who listed eight conditions that he expected his wife to follow, and Visu, the broker, tricks him into marrying Shanthi Krishna, who fits none of the criteria.
Now, after 34 years, Shekher, Visu and Kuriakose Ranga are reprising their original roles, albeit in the present era.
“We are now coming up with Manal Kayiru 2, in which my daughter, played by Poorna, lays down eight similar conditions before she agrees to marry Ashwin Shekher (my son in real life), who plays Ranga’s son. Manal Kayiru 2 is directed by Madhan Kumar (Yaaruda Mahesh) and promises to be a rip-roaring rollercoaster ride, just as the first one was,” says S. Ve. Shekher.
Bobby plays baddie
Director Ananda Krishnan will bring together three different issues in his forthcoming film, Metro. “In today’s world, three of the most important issues are the black marketing of gold, discrimination against women and the anti-social behaviour of youth. Bobby Simha plays a character called Guna. It is a powerful one with negative shades; he is involved in the black marketing of gold. Playing reporters are the hero, played by newcomer Shirish, and Maya (Darling 2), who plays the female lead. The screenplay brings together all these various social problems, and focusses especially on how the behaviour of today’s youth is responsible for many of the ills of society,” says Ananda Krishnan.
