Stand up for Shah Rukh, Mumbaikars told

February 12, 2010 12:47 am | Updated 12:47 am IST - NEW DELHI

Right to Information activist-turned-Information Commissioner Sailesh Gandhi on Thursday urged citizens of Mumbai and Maharashtra to stand up in support of actor Shah Rukh Khan against the diktats of the Shiv Sena.

Mr. Gandhi — who lived in Mumbai before moving to Delhi — said while the government “appears to be willing to defend Shah Rukh Khan’s fundamental right this time,” it is about time citizens rallied and declared that “we will not be terrorised by some people who want to curb our fundamental rights.”

Condemning all those who seek to terrorise the masses with threats to freedom and peace, Mr. Gandhi said: “It does not matter whether they come from within the country or from a foreign country. Thousands of citizens of Mumbai and Maharashtra need to express their desire individually to defend our freedom.”
