A supernatural thriller with actor Nayanthara and a laugh riot — actor Aari looks forward to back-to-back films. It also marks a transition from his rustic appearance in his recent hit Nedunchalai to a refreshing new look. “I am very excited to be part of the films. Both are in different genres, something new and I have put on the weight I shed for Nedunchalai to look the part.,” says the actor. Though the production house is yet to decide on a suitable name for the thriller, Aari plays a pivotal role. The film is directed by newcomer Ashwin Saravanan. “Director Ashwin made a teaser before approaching the producers and Nayanthara. The film has a solid script, is technically sound and will set new standards in the horror genre. We have started filming and I am looking forward to working with Nayanthara,” says the actor. He says after the 80s and 90s which saw horror films such as My dear Lisa and Yaar , there is a revival of the horror genre now.

Aari’s other film Kadai En 6 is set in Chennai and is directed by Sasidharan, who is the co-writer of Chennai 600028 and director of Vaaraayo Vennilavey with Attakathi Dinesh. The film will release shortly. “ Kadai … is a cult film, a well-fleshed out entertainer. We burst out laughing a number of times while filming. That’s how funny it is,” he says.

Be it horror or comedy, Aari says he chooses films that offer quality entertainment and, at the same time, do well commercially. “Even if I do just 10 films, I want each of them to be remembered. We can try new experiments, but not at the cost of audience. They need entertainment,” he says. He says after Nedunchalai, a change in look was necessary. “The best part of being an actor is to live different roles and enjoy a new experience every day. This week, we shot an action scene at the Kathipara junction in Chennai for Kadai En 6 . It was challenging to be amidst the crowd and still come up with your best emotion,” he says.
