What can be the most significant privilege enjoyed by a starkid in the film industry? If you think that they get an easy break in films, you are thinking the obvious. The thing is these kids could find themselves in their star-dad’s films even if they were never interested in the first place. This was the case with Ritvik Arun, son of director Vasanth, who, in his own words, stated that it was his father’s decision to have him make a special appearance in Moondru Per Moondru Kadal starring Cheran, Vimal, Arjun and others.
The young starlet was formally introduced to the media by Vasanth, in the presence of his mentor, K. Balachander and veteran cinematographer, Balu Mahendra. Ritvik’s passion lies elsewhere. The lanky lad, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication, wants to be a director. He said, “I am more interested in direction and photography. I even worked in the pre-production of Mani Ratnam’s Kadal. I was actually surprised when my dad wanted me to do this.”
Surprised by the attention he was getting for his ‘photogenic’ face, Ritvik, also a trained dancer, wants to wait and see what comes his way. “Though I aspire to be a director, I would still like to take up good acting offers. And there are many actors who have directed films as well, right?” said Ritvik.
If he was not really looking to show his face on the screen, what made him take up this offer? “My grandmom, who is no more, used to tell me that she wanted to see my giant-sized cut-out on Mount Road. I just wanted to fulfil her wish,” he said.
When asked why he did not cast Ritvik as the lead in his yet-to-be-released film, Vasanth said that Ritvik has just taken a baby step into the world of films. “He has a long way to go,” observed Vasanth. Ritvik, who was standing next to his father, nodded in agreement.
