The Bandra police have arrested a man accused of stalking actor Shruti Haasan. Ashok Shankar Trimukhe is a resident of Dharavi and works at Film City as a production boy.

On Tuesday morning, a man tried to force his way in and touched her shoulder when Ms. Haasan answered the door bell of her Bandra flat. She reacted quickly, pushing the man away and slamming the door. On Thursday, she filed an FIR with the police who collected CCTV recordings from the building.

A police official said Trimukhe claimed it was a misunderstanding. “He said he was poor and had come to Ms. Haasan’s flat to ask her for a job for his sister. In the middle of the conversation, Ms. Haasan tried to shut the door and he tried to stop her,” said the official.

However, Ms. Haasan told the police the man had been stalking her for almost a year.

Trimukhe has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354D (stalking).
