Melody rules
Director S.P. Hosimin's Aayiram Vilakku, featuring Sathyaraj, Shanthnoo, Sanaa Khan and Suman, is progressing at a steady pace. The music has been composed by Srikant Deva, and he recently recorded a number with K.J. Yesudas for Vairamuthu's lyrics. The song, ‘Enna Thavam Seithen' brought back memories of vintage Yesudas — ‘Poove Poochoodava', ‘Amma Endrazhaikatha Uyir Illaye' and ‘Pachchai Kiligal Thoallodu'. Looks like melody is back for good!
Ode to laughter
“It's difficult to get a producer who understands your story and sees your point of view, without imposing his own commercial thoughts,” says director Haricharan. He found his ideal producer in Umesh Mehra of Eagle Films, a Bollywood banner made famous by his father F.C. Mehra. Umesh, a producer and director himself, readily agreed to produce Haricharan's full-length comedy Papanaasathil Oru Nari . “The film is an interaction between a priest and a gypsy. I have conceived it as an ode to all comedians in Tamil cinema, and most of them who are still around will appear in the film at one stage or the other,” says the director.
Madhu Ambat has agreed to crank the camera, and Hari is determined to get Ilaiyaraaja to score the music. “The theme is right up his alley and only he can do justice to the music, especially the background score,” says Haricharan. The casting is underway, with Sampath being signed up to play one of the protagonists.
Who's the heroine?
Karan depicts the typical Sooran in a film by the same name, directed by Balunarayanan. The film is about such a man as well as about those whose lives change every moment. Says Balunarayanan: “Every human being is a Sooran in some way or the other. Depending on circumstances, he will be good or bad.” And, he is finding it difficult to get the right girl to play the heroine. Any takers?
Scared stiff
Director Pratheesh tackles the fearless trait of a slum dweller in Bayam Ariyaan . Mahesh Raja, the hero, is not only fearless, but ruthless too, especially towards his mother. He ill treats her and, at one point, kills her. It is only after this that his loneliness makes him afraid of various things around him. The lessons he learns will be an eye-opener for many who live a wayward life, the makers feel. Udayatara is a perfect foil for his gruff character.
Of war and weapons
After Kaathalan Kaathali , director-actor Jai Akash is busy with Ayudha Porattam . Keeping him company are heroines Preethi Minnal and Anita Reddy. The story revolves around the meeting of an Indian Tamil and a Sri Lankan Tamil. Is the film about the strife in the island nation? Only Jai can tell, for he is keeping the theme close to his chest. The movie is to be shot in Thailand, Hong Kong and China, with schedules also planned in London, France and Germany for the song sequences.
