Sonam Kapoor is excited about her upcoming Tamil-Hindi bilingual Ambikapathy ( Raanjhanaa in Hindi). “Many actresses whom I admire — such as like Jayapradha, Hema Malini, Waheeda Rehman, Vyjayanthimala and Sridevi — have started their career in Tamil. I’m quite thrilled to enter the Tamil film industry through Ambikapathy . Incidentally, Sonam recalls her father Anil Kapoor’s South connection too — it was Mani Ratnam’s Kannada film Pallavi Anupallavi that who gave Anil his first break.

Scale new heights

Kumki actor Vikram Prabhu is on to his next with director Gaurav’s ( Thoonga Nagaram ) Sigaram Thodu . Keeping him company are Monal Gajjar and Sathish ( Ethir Neechal ). The music by D. Imman is expected to add lustre to the lush locales that Gaurav has chosen to shoot the film in — the Himalayan mountain range near the Chandi Devi Temple in Haridwar. Cranking the camera is Vijay Ulaganathan who proved his mettle in films such as Thoonga Nagaram . The film’s produced by UTV Motion Pictures.

True to life

Director Suryaprakash has scripted his forthcoming film Varushanaadu based on a true story that happened in Dindigul and surrounding districts. “This is a love story that involved people and families known to me. I have not portrayed any of them in a negative manner; most of them are still around. I have shot the film in the locations where the real incidents happened,” says Suryaprakash. The lead role is played by Kumaran ( Dhairyam ) and his love interest, by Srushti Dange.

Mimicry, movies…

Badava Gopi, who won the appreciation of Kamal Hassan for the flair with which he mimics the sounds of birds and animals, recently did a programme on wildlife for a television channel. But it’s not just the mimicry spells that keeps the actor busy . He will be seen in five films, which are in various stages of production. “I play the cameraman to Hansika’s reporter in Biriyani , while in Saraswathi Sabatham I play a restless politician, in Nimirndhu Nil , a fraudulent government officer and a schoolteacher in Pattathu Yanai . In Balaji Sakthivel’s untitled film I play a drunkard. I prefer to do character roles laced with humour,” says Badava Gopi.
