Commemorating 100 years of Indian cinema, the Limca Book Of Records has recognised 20 luminaries of the Indian film industry. In its Cinema Special edition, it catalogues a section acknowledging the achievements of these icons, terming them People Of The Year. One of them is Kamal Haasan, whose profile includes acting, direction, production, script writing, song writing, playback singing and choreography. Happy to be in the club, he says, “It gives me great pleasure to be part of this landmark celebration marking the 100 years of Indian cinema, which not only recognises the contributions of the field to Indian culture but also contributions from the various aspects of filmmaking. This initiative will act as a catalyst to inspire today's youngsters to take Indian cinema to greater heights across the globe.”

The big comeback

Actor Vadivelu is all set to return to the big screen, after a hiatus. His comeback film is tentatively titled Gaja Buja Buja Gaja Tenali Ramanum Krishnadevarayarum. The actor says, “I wanted my comeback film to be a big venture, so I was waiting for the right subject with ingredients to make the audience laugh to their hearts content. I play a dual role in the film.” The film is directed by Yuvaraj, and Thaman is to score the music.

Third dimension

Three-dimensional films are all the rage now, and in keeping with this, the Tamil film Anjal Thurai will feature one song in 3D. The film’s director A.R. Rafi says, “I’m happy to have shot a 3D song. In theatres without provision for 3D, the song will be screened in 2D format.” The film is a thriller revolving around a love story set in a college.

It’s different!

Director P. Vasu’s son Sakthi is excited about the Tamil-Telugu bilingual Padam Pesum. The actor, who has featured in films such as Thottaal Poomalarum, Ninaithaale Inikkum, Mahesh Saranya Mattrum Palar and Aattanaayagan says, “The film’s screenplay is different, and is sure to keep the audience glued to their seats — hence the film’s title! It is an action thriller with love and sentiment too thrown in.” The cast includes Poorna, Vivek, Seetha, Sithara and Riyaz Khan. It is said to have been shot in 60 locations, including West Bengal.
