Rock bands stepping into movie promotion isn’t a new trend in Malayalam. Avial, Vidwan and Black Letters took the stage in the movies Salt N Pepper, Romans and 5 Sundarikal , respectively. They brought out the title track and music videos. Next in line is Kolam. The city-based band has come out with the title track for the movie Vedivazhipadu , directed by Shambu Purushothaman and produced by director Arun Kumar Aravind. “The song, ‘Kaalam…’, written by Sreeja Nair, talks about the times that we live in,” say the members. A music video of the track featuring the band has already been shot in and around the city, by Thought Station.

Kolam, launched early this year, comprises Tony Wilson (vocals), Chippu a.k.a. Nithin (bass guitar), Arun Dutt Pullat (guitars), Arpith Samuel (drums and electronica) and Joe Johnson (keyboard and synth). The band has already released six songs.
