A still from the film "Ragalaipuram"

A still from the film "Ragalaipuram"

Right the fourth time

Looks like actor Karunas and his team are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that his next film “Ragalaipuram” clicks at the box-office. Apparently, four different versions of a song were recently recorded by Srikanth Deva, who is intent on delivering a hit. The music director was satisfied with the last version.

Says Karunas: “The song appears just before the climax. We wanted it to be a peppy number for the masses, and Srikanth Deva has done a fine job. He kept working on it; he was satisfied with only the fourth version.”

The film, which includes the likes of Kovai Sarala, M.S. Baskar, Singampuli, Singamuthu, Madanbob, Manobala and Mayilsamy, is an action comedy directed by Mano. Incidentally, Mano wrote the comedy track for actor Vadivelu in over 30 films.

Real to reel

What you see on reel is often based on real-life incidents. Director Balaji Dharanitharan's film “Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom” is a case in point. Says Balaji: “My film is based on an incident that happened in the life of my cameraman Prem Kumar. Four of us, including Prem Kumar and director Gautham Menon's assistant Bhagavathi Perumal, were friends. We had gathered for Prem's wedding that was to take place in a week's time. However, while playing cricket, a small accident caused Prem memory loss. We did not know how to break the news to his family as we feared it would cause fear and confusion, resulting in the wedding getting stopped. Back then, we weren't even sure if he would regain his memory. It was a tense period for all of us. It's funny to think about it now. How we managed then has been made into a movie.”

Vijay Sethupathy of “Thenmerku Paruvakkatru” fame and Gayathri play the lead.

Getting sporty

Director Arivazhagan, who made everybody sit up and take note of his arrival in Kollywood with “Eeram”, is busy with his next film “Vallinam” that features Nakul in the lead. The director, who is from Shankar's school and a gold medallist from the film institute, is known to pay attention to casting. Now it's said he's cast Siddharth, an actor from Tollywood, as the anti-hero in the film.

Says Arivazhagan: “Siddharth, who is playing the hero in a couple of Telugu films, will play the anti-hero in this film. Nakul plays a basketball player in this film about sports.”
