Lyricist-poet Vairamuthu is apparently looking at re-writing the 133 chapters of the Thirukkural for the current generation. And, it all began with a film! “Director Arvind Ramalingam and music director L.V. Ganesan approached me for writing a title score for the film Karma differently — they wanted couplets. I took the couplets from the chapter Oozhvinai Oozhivinal of the Thirukkural, and gave them a twist. After that, they recorded the couplets in my voice. Thirukkural was written many centuries ago, and times have changed since. And that set me thinking about re-writing it for the present generation,” he says.

Double impact

With Aadhi Bhagavan to be released soon, ‘Jeyam’ Ravi is preparing for his upcoming films, and how! For director Samudirakani’s Nimirndhu Nil, said to be a high-voltage action film, the actor wanted a two-day workshop to prepare himself for the role and give his best. The actor says, “I’m happy about the workshop since the action sequences are not only interesting but also important for the film. I’m sure this training will take my performance to the next level.” The film has Amala Paul, Meghana Raj and Subbu Panchu, and music is by G.V. Prakash Kumar. It is being simultaneously shot in Telugu as Janda Pai Kapiraju, with actor Nani reprising Ravi’s role. Ravi is also working on Boologam.
