It's official, at last. Director K. V. Anand's “Maatran,” starring Suriya and Kajal Agarwal in the lead, is to hit the screens on August 15. Earlier, there was a lot of speculation about its release and sources in the unit had indicated that the film was likely to release in July.

Now, Eros International, which has bought the Tamil theatrical rights of the film, has announced that it will hit the screens on Independence Day.

Suriya plays two roles in the film which has been shot in various places such as Russia, Croatia, Serbia, Albania and Macedonia.

Naan Ee takes wing

Ace Telugu director S. S. Rajamouli's first Tamil flick “Naan Ee” is to hit the screens on May 30. The director, who has to his credit several blockbusters such as “Sye,” “Vikramarkudu,” “Yamadonga” and “Maghadeera,” has made a fly the hero in this sci-fi, which has already raised expectations.

Teams in the U.S., Russia, Poland and India have worked on the special effects of this film, which will feature Nani and Samantha in the lead. The film is to be released in three languages — it's titled “Eega” in Telugu.

Mistaken identity

Director Natty Kumar, whose film “Pani Thuli,” starring Ganesh Venkatram, Shobhana and Kalpana Pandit is to hit the screens by the end of this month, is a concerned man today. Reason? The director is worried he may be mistaken for another gentleman, whose name sounds similar. The director sought to set the record straight at a recent press conference.

He said, “There is another gentleman whose name is Natti Kumar. He is the one who bought the Telugu rights of the film ‘3' and I have nothing to do with it.”
