Actor Oviya, who first made heads turn with Sargunam's “Kalavaani” by playing the role of a village belle, is eagerly awaiting the release of her next film, Sundar C's “Masala Cafe,” said to be a full-fledged entertainer.
About her role, she says, “I play a bubbly, homely girl called Maya in ‘Masala Café,' which is full of humorous sequences. There are six songs in all. I am part of five songs, one of which will see me sport glamorous outfits. In fact, this is the first time I have done a glamorous song.”
The film, which also features Vimal, Mirchi Shiva, Anjali and Santhanam, has been shot extensively in Kumbakonam and Gobichettypalayam.
Says Oviya, “Apart from ‘Masala Cafe,' I am working on ‘Sillunu Oru Sandhippu' which is being directed by first-timer Ravi. It features Vimal and myself in the lead. I also have another untitled film that is being directed by Pandiraj sir's assistant in Tamil.”
Commenting on Vimal, who has been her co-star in her first three films, she says, “Vimal is a great artiste and it was good to work with him. While he played my boyfriend in ‘Kalavaani,' he plays my cousin in ‘Masala Cafe.'”
A dream come true
Singer Benny Dayal seems to have realised one of his dreams. He has released a music album titled ‘Vazhkai DJ.' The songs have been penned by Christopher Pradeep and the music has been scored by Charles Bosco and Benny Dayal.
Speaking at the album release function, Benny said, “It's been my dream for the past four years and I've been able to realise it now. I have sung the songs and Dr Burns, who is one of my favourites, has rapped for one of them. We have named it ‘Vazhkai' as it is about life.”
Christopher Pradeep, who has penned the lyrics, said, “Benny was abroad when he decided to cut the album. One night, he called me and said that he had sent me some tunes for which I would have to write the lyrics. He gave me a one-line description of what he wanted for each song. That was the kind of freedom he gave me.”
