Folk flavour
Madhan Karky has every reason to smile. For the first time in his career as a lyricist, the youngster has penned folk songs. What makes it even more special is he has penned them for Mani Ratnam’s next film, Kadal .
“Contrary to what most people think, it is easy to work with the director, for he is very clear about what he wants. I have penned three songs that can be classified as folk for Kadal,” says Karky, who is also writing a few songs for Samudirakani’s Nimirndhu Nil and Cheran’s JK Enum Nanbanin Vazhkai among others.
“I enjoy challenges and therefore am game for writing songs in varied genres. However, when people ask me for songs making fun of women, I politely decline the offer,” says Karky. Looks like this lyricist has his priorities in order!
Album on Bharati’s songs
RJ-turned-singer Suchi has added another feather to her cap. Suchi, who has rendered several hits in films, recently launched her album on Subramania Bharati’s songs.
Titled Music I Like , the album comprises eight songs sung by Suchi to the music of Sai Madhukar.
Speaking on the occasion, she said, “This album provided me an opportunity to experiment. It took us almost eight months as we wanted to ensure perfect pronunciation of the words in the songs of the legend.”
Acting and administration
Most people remember actor Vijay Vasanth as the last man standing in the song ‘Vaazhkaiya’ from Chennai 600028 and as a dear friend, who loses his leg for the sake of friendship in Nadodigal . But not many know that the youngster, who is now playing the lead in Madhil Mel Poonai , helps his dad take care of two business establishments even as he pursues a career in acting.
“I handle the operations of Vasanth TV and our store Vasanth and Co, although it is dad who makes the big decisions. My acting hasn’t hindered the business. It is only when I am shooting outdoors that things get a little difficult but then, I have my dad to fall back on,” says Vijay Vasanth.
