Sundeep Kishan, who plays the lead in the adult comedy Yaaruda Mahesh, actually started out by assisting director Gautam Vasudev Menon. “I approached him for a role in his film. When I realised there was nothing available, I joined his direction team so I could get an entry in films,” says Sundeep. So, what does Gautam Menon think about his work in films? “I think he is happy with my work in films such as Shor In The City,” he says.
Juggling jobs
Actor Karuna was working in a software firm when he collaborated with Nalan Kumarasamy to make short films. He became a YouTube rage with short films such as Nadandhadhu Ennannaa and Oru Padam Edukkanum where he played the lead. Once the opportunities started coming in from the likes of Sunder C and Karthik Subbaraj, he had to decide when to quit his high-paying job. “It was the hardest decision to make, since I was getting offers, but not enough to sustain myself,” he says. Director Sunder C had advised him to not take an impulsive decision and accommodated him for the shooting schedule. “I must thank both my boss at my company and Sunder for helping me juggle both,” says Karuna. And, the success of Karthik Subbaraj’s Pizza has changed the fortunes. “I am not an IT professional anymore and I’m concentrating on acting now,” he says.
