Actor Sathyaraj’s and Manivannan’s roles in the 1994 political satire Amaidhi Padai made them both extremely popular. Now, both are looking to recreate the magic of Amaidhi Padai. Says Sathyaraj: “I will be acting in this film, to be directed by Manivannan. Incidentally, it will be his 50th as director. The script will be similar to Amaidhi Padai’s. Work will begin in October.”Meanwhile, the actor has dismissed reports that he would be acting in Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express. The film, to be directed by Rohit Shetty, is to star Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone in the lead. “It is only after meeting the team can I confirm whether I am doing this film or not,” says Sathyaraj.

Hands full

Actor-director Cheran has his hands full at the moment. The director has silently completed 20 days of shooting of his next film J K Enum Nanbanin Kathai. Sharwanand, who impressed in Engeyum Eppodhum, and Nithya Menen, who made people sit up and take notice with her role in Veppam, play the lead. Interestingly, Cheran is also simultaneously producing Appavin Meesai, the shooting of which is on in Kolkata. Actor Rohini is directing the film, which has newcomers in the lead.

Best foot forward

Actor Dipa Shah, whose next film in Tamil Sillunu Oru Sandhippu is to hit the screens in October, has a new passion.

Says Dipa: “My character in the film knows Kathak, and so, I began learning it. One week into it, and I got hooked.” Even after the film’s completion, the actor’s continuing to learn the dance form. “Veeru Krishnaji is my guru. I have been learning it for the last three months and hope to have an arangetram some day. The dance form improves your ability to grasp. My leg movements and reflexes are much faster now.”
