Action — part II

It seems there’s a lot to look forward to in Vishwaroopam 2. Last heard, the film is nearly over. Said to have Auro 3D and revolve around action, family and love, the film will also explore a mother-son relationship. Apparently, the artistes and the technicians from the first part have worked in the second one too, with a few new names joining in. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan who was in Mumbai recently met with Hollywood great Stephen Spielberg and discussed filmmaking.

What’s in a K?

So you think calling oneself K is quirky? Try this. The music director was apparently Qe Qe, before he became K! Says the composer, “A few years ago, I had some backing vocals on a track for the Hindi film 99. Music director Mahesh Shankar used it and asked me what name I would like to have on the credits. I was in a fix, and he suggested I could call myself Qe Qe.” K recounts two memorable incidents from his musical journey so far. “After working in three short films, I asked director Mysskin if I could meet Ilaiyaraaja. One day I got a call from the director and rushed to Prasad studio. I was stunned when Ilaiyaraaja entered. I cannot forget that day in my life. Also, the biggest appreciation for my work came from director Vijay who watched Aarohanam and told me he liked my music very much.”

Best of both worlds

Both Lingusamy and Gautham Vasudev Menon have carved a niche for themselves in direction and production. If the buzz now is anything to go by, we may have the best from both — apparently, Lingusamy has asked Menon to do a film for his production house Thirupathi Brothers. The production house has such films as Vettai, Vazhakku Enn 18/9 and Kumki to its credit. Menon will start work on the film after he completes his current assignment. Meanwhile, Lingusamy is said to be giving final touches to his script for the film in which Suriya and Samantha play the lead.
