John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu opens the door to the intriguing tale of John Paul and Manoj Mamman. Directed by Chandrahasan, the film, inspired by a short story written by Punathil Kunjabdullah, is a racy thriller.

Deepak Parambol, Vineeth Sreenivasan’s discovery, plays the protagonist in the film, while Sudip Joshy, returns to the silver screen after six years as Manoj. Geethika Sudip is the associate director.

“It is a story of two men and how their lives get entangled when John, who comes to attend an interview, opens a door that he should not have. As a result their lives are changed for ever,” says Sudip.

Shot in Peerumede, Kanjirapally, Kuttikanam and so on, the film that has been filmed by Rakesh, a former assistant of veteran cinematographer Venu.

“Each frame has been carefully designed and some of the shots are truly spectacular,” says Sudip. Shruthy Menon and Chennai-based theatre person Darshana enact the female characters in the film.

“There is a twist in the tale after the interval. The casting took some time since we required actors who could act as their younger versions in certain sequences in the film. What is remarkable is that Chandrahasan is returning to direction after three decades,” adds Sudeep.

Chandrahasan had directed Pratheeksha , starring Sukumaran and Mohan. The soulful Salil Chowdhury number ‘Ormakale kaivala charthi…’ is one of the hits in the film.

Looks like Chandrahasan is again reviving memories of another day before he became engrossed in his business.
