Sanam Re: Two hours seem longer

This Valentine weekend Bollywood has unleashed two romantic films that are quite undeserving of any love from the audience. There are striking similarities between the two: mountains, snow, love that goes way back to childhood and a hero who goes shirtless. There’s more: lovers coming together, going away and then coming back together again.

However, we have director Divya Khosla go ahead and include more clichés in Sanam Re — like mountains are innocence, city is a materialistic jungle. There’s the love triangle in which the righteous good girl (Yami fast losing all her equity) will win over the confused boy (a single expression Pulkit) from the “bad”, bikini clad girl (Urvashi). There are health issues, some overdone sets, a Canadian yoga retreat to bring in the mandatory scenic foreign locales in the frames, caricatures in the name of character artistes including the popular comedienne Bharti Singh, songs and some more songs, sex jokes and sexist remarks. They make the two hours stretch longer. If this is sweet and cute bring me another film.
