Not many noticed Aditi Chengappa in her debut film Thakita Thakita but she is set to grab eyeballs this time in director Gunashekar’s magnum opus Rudramadevi as Anushka’s sibling Ganapamba. The actor narrates her experience of working on the mammoth sets of Rudramadevi . “It is magical, I’ve seen a 3D camera for the first time. Watching the stars in action flawlessly delivering their dialogues is fantastic. There is lot of grandeur, but Guna’s attention to detail should be seen to be believed. Even if a glass is not in the proper place, he stops the shoot to fix it. The film is so rich because of these details. Just to be a part of it is great and I would have been happy being just a soldier in the movie.”
She adds, “It is unfortunate that women-centric stories are being ignored, the audience has to accept such roles . Look at Arundhati or Queen; there has never been a single boring scene.”
Bangalore-born Aditi was brought up in Delhi; her dad is a Coorgi and mom a Tamilian. One of her great grand aunts was Rukmini Arundale and another great grand aunt was DK Pattammal. However none in the family took up acting as a career. “My parents are extremely open and encouraging of anything I feel I want to pursue. I studied Hindustani classical and Jazz and I play the piano, guitar — music is something I am crazy about, I actually thought I would get into music. Even in my wildest dreams, I never imagined I would audition for a film”.
The attractive Aditi is currently busy with Tamil and Telugu; she stresses that the script is the defining factor for her to take up a project, and she loves the challenge of picking up languages. She says, “ Rudrama Devi When I was offered the role, I read the story carefully. What this queen has done is amazing and I will not ruin it by telling all. I can only reveal that it is very vital to the movie that she has a sister and not a brother. The Matrix
Aditi says the most difficult part of the shoot was “the heavy jewellery undoubtedly”. She has known Anushka Shetty for years, they trained with the same yoga guru. She avers, “At times, during breaks I would massage her shoulders a bit, everything she wears is heavy in the film and it is very hectic for her as she is also doing Bahubali . Yoga is helping us, otherwise we would be in pain. The first time I got dressed for the role I took selfies and sent it to my mom as we can’t share it with anyone. It was exciting to wear all those costumes and jewellery.”
Aditi had wrapped up Moone Moonu Vaarthai , a bilingual produced by SP Charan (in Telugu it is Moode Moodu Mukkalo Cheppalante . Her next is Amruthamgamaya produced by K.S. Rama Rao.
