Recognition after roadblocks

Thoovanam, directed by Haricharan (co-director: Newton), was adjudged the Best Family Film for 2007 at the recently announced Tamil Nadu State Awards. For the director, the recognition was long overdue. What does he feel about it? Says Haricharan: “I am humbled by this recognition for a small budget film. We faced many roadblocks after the film was completed — distribution, screening, etc. It’s heartening there is a body like the State Government Awards that recognises talent and effort. Unfortunately, even most of our media didn’t find it worth mentioning that the film had won the award.” Thoovanam is also noteworthy for its excellent cinematography by Madhu Ambat.
