T.A. Razak's maiden directorial venture is based on a real-life incident.

Scriptwriter T.A. Razak is turning director with a film titled ‘Soumyam Deeptham.' “I have always wanted to send a message through my screenplays; I thought by telling Soumya's tale I would be able to a strong message to our society,” says Razak. Soumya was a youngster who was molested and killed during a train journey.

Fictionalised version

“If the passengers on that train had acted, Soumya would have been alive. I want to motivate our viewers to be less apathetic,” says Razak. ‘Soumyam Deeptham' is a fictionalised version of the incident, he adds. “A newcomer will play the character based on Soumya. Mamta Mohandas dons the role of a witness who gets involved in the aftermath of the tragedy. Sreenivasan will enact a police office,” he says.

Tamil actor and director Samudrakkani who made his debut in Malalayalam with ‘Shikar' will play a lawyer who defends the man accused of raping and murdering her. Asif Ali will play Soumya's fiancé.

Among his notable scripts are ‘Perumazhakkalam,' ‘Kanakkinavu,' ‘Ghoshayathra,' and ‘Ghazal.'

Razak plans to direct a film with Mammootty in the lead and another film produced by Jayaraj.
