Despite having made a film that’s worthy of critical acclaim, Mysskin’s Onaayum Aattukuttiyum did not get a wide release presumably because it has no notable stars, catchy songs or a comedy actor spouting funny lines. Unable to compete with the marketing blitzkrieg of big studios that are plush with money, Mysskin, who has produced the film, has taken it upon himself to get the word out on the street.
What has he been up to? Mysskin is on a tour to Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai to meet his fans watching the movie in the theatre, distribute the audio CDs of the film and make sure that his movie posters are stuck on the walls.
A desperate marketing gimmick? “Only two days after the film’s release did I begin this. This was not pre-planned. I am doing it to reach a lot more people,” says Mysskin. The filmmaker says that it is also an opportunity for him to meet his fans. “I get to meet those who like my films and tell them how difficult it is to make a good movie in this industry. It has been quite an experience,” he says.
