A consulting room of an eye hospital at Irinjalakuda is the day's location for film director Madhu Kaithapram's ‘Orma Maathram.' Dileep, the lead actor in the film, sports a serious mien. The scene being shot has him opening a door and entering a room. Cinematographer M.J. Radhakrishnan positions his camera to get the best angle for the shot.
Missing child
In the meantime the director narrates the gist of the story: “The movie revolves around Ajayan (Dileep), a clerk at a lawyer's office. His son goes missing and the story follows the father's journey in search of his son. Priyanka Nair plays his wife Safiya and Sidharth dons the role of their son,” says Madhu, who has earlier directed films such as ‘Ekantham' and ‘Madhyavenal.'
“It was the universal nature of the theme and its social relevance that attracted me to this project,” adds Madhu.
Writer C.V. Balakrishnan has written the screenplay and dialogues based on Rahim Kadavath's story.
A small crowd of onlookers watch the shooting and Dileep interacts with a couple of them in between his shots.
“Ajayan has a problem with his eyesight and the shot that is being canned has him coming to see the ophthalmologist,” explains Madhu.
“This is a story quite close to life,” chips in Dileep, while his heroine Priyanka says: “My character goes through various phases during the movie. She is a housewife whose life revolves around her husband and kid. How she and her husband deal with the loss of their son forms the crux of the story.” ‘Orma Maathram' is being produced by Rajan Thaliparamba under the banner of Horizon Entertainment.
The cast includes Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Salim Kumar, Harisree Asokan and Dhanya Mary among others.
