When it was announced that veteran composer M.S. Viswanathan, who scored the music for K. Balachander’s Thillu Mullu , will work with a young composer such as Yuvan Shankar Raja for the film’s remake featuring ‘Mirchi’ Shiva, naysayers were of the opinion that the pairing, though sensational, will most likely not work.

As if to put these doubts to rest, the remake’s director Badri has managed to convince the veteran music director to appear alongside Yuvan Shankar Raja in the iconic song ‘Thillu Mullu Thillu Mullu’. After wrapping up the shoot, Badri explained his creative decision, “When I started this film, everyone asked me how I was going to remake the cult hit. When I heard Yuvan’s remix of ‘Thillu Mullu’, it really sounded new. That’s when it struck me that I should probably bring the two of them together.”

Two songs from the original — ‘Thillu Mullu’ (remix) and ‘Ragangal Pathinaaru’ — have been retained, and two fresh songs composed. About the remix, Yuvan says, “I just wanted to give the original theme music a contemporary sound. I have not touched the song ‘Ragangal Pathinaaru’, which has been sung by singer Karthik.”
