Kanna Laddu Thinna Asaiya
What it is about
Produced by Ramanarayanan and N.Santhanam, Kanna Laddu Thinna Asaiya , is a collaborative venture by Sri Thenandal Films and Handmade Films. The first copy of the audio-CD was received by actor-director STR (Simbu) from director Shankar. Directed by K. S. Manikandan, the film has been cranked by Balasubramaniem, and the music scored by S.Thaman. The story is about three men — Santhanam, ‘Powerstar’ Srinivasan and Sethu — in love with the same woman (Visaka). Kovai Sarala, Devadarshini, V.T.V.Ganesh, and ‘pattimandram’ Raja play important roles.
What they say
Producer Ramanarayanan: I’ve directed and produced more than 100 films and when Santhanam asked me to join him in producing Kanna Laddu … I was at once interested because it’s a comedy. Comedy artistes in Tamil have produced films but I wanted Santhanam to do a comedy. The film has shaped up well.
Director K. S. Manikandan: I have done more than 150 short and ad films. I’ve been associated with actor Santhanam for over three years, writing comedy scripts for him. We had three scripts on hand, but zeroed in on the present one. Before starting his production house, Santhanam was sure of one thing — each and every scene of Kanna Laddu … should be comedy. So we would shoot a scene and show it to music director Thaman S. Only if laughed would we move to the next scene. If he did not laugh, we would redo the shoot. That’s why I’m confident the film will draw laughs from the audience.
Hero Santhanam: I wanted it to produce a comedy — one that people would remember with a smile even after ten years. I’m happy I was able to persuade some of my friends to act in the film.
Music Director Thaman S.: I have done films with a comedy element, but Kanna Laddu… is a laugh riot. We The re-recording should have been completed in a few days but it dragged on as we laughed so much at every scene.
Music Highlights: There are six numbers in the album. ‘Aasiayae Alipolay’, written by Viveka, sounds rather like a remix. ‘Love Letter’, written by Gana Bala and sung by Mukesh, is pleasant. ‘Ye Unnathan’ is by far the best number. Written by Vaali, the song is sung by Ranjith, Rahul, Naveen and Suchitra. The next two numbers, also by the same lyricist, are ‘Birthday’ sung by MLR.Karthikeyan, Senthil and Sam P.Keerthan, and ‘Duet Song’ rendered by Muralidhar, Rahul and Ranjith. The last song is ‘Potti’, written and sung by Gana Bala.
