How it happened
An out and out Chennai girl, I learnt Bharatanatyam and classical music from the age of 5. After finishing my masters in Mass Communication at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, I came back to Chennai. My parents were worried that a JNU PG topper was wasting her brains and getting into movies. With no formal training in acting and with no celeb parents (her father R. Sunder was the hero of Oru Koil Iru Theepangal directed by SP. Muthuraman), I entered filmdom with just a passion for cinema. I got a chance to act as the heroine in Muthal Muthal Muthal Varai ( M3V ) through a family friend. The film won critical acclaim worldwide.
How it felt
My joy knew no bounds, when the film was screened to an invited audience in Four Frames and my performance appreciated. I followed it up with Ninaithale Inikkum . It was a good opportunity for any newcomer to be in the company of experienced artists and technicians. I was thrilled when I got a call from Rajkamal Films to play the journalist in Unnai Pol Oruvan . How many people would be lucky enough to get acting tips from ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan, I wondered.
How life changed
Life has not changed much, but I would love to do some good work in the industry. When I go out, people call me Natasha Rajkumar (the role I played in Unnai Pol Oruvan ). I have been signed up for a film produced by Mirchi Movies and three more are in the pipeline.
