The songs of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani such as ‘Balam pichkari’, ‘Badtameez dil’ and ‘Delhiwali girlfriend’ are topping the charts and it once again establishes the strange connect between the film’s heroine Deepika and its music director Pritam. Deepika smiles: “Yes! All my successful films — Love Aaj Kal , Cocktail and Race 2 — have dada’s music and I have been lucky each time to get good songs. Music is an integral part of our cinema; this is what sets it apart from the rest of the world.” The actor recognises that music has played a part in her success, enthusing, “Most often music enhances an actor’s performance. For instance, a song can take a romantic sequence to another level. Good music has always worked.”
A challenging angle
Ayan Mukhejee shot much of his latest film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in beautiful locations in Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir. He even made his cast and crew go trekking to reach some far flung places. “We went to locations that were difficult to reach. We did a lot of trekking. I find trekking very romantic — you walk for like six hours and reach a beautiful place, sit down and take a photograph. But to create these visuals cinematically with a crew of 100 people is not easy. Imagine going up a mountain carrying camera and lights. There were some who quit the film after the first schedule because they found the routine torturous. But I find such challenges fun,” says Ayan.

As heroes in the 1980s and 90s, Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor formed a formidable team that worked in super hit films such as Karma , Ram Lakhan , Parinda and 1942 A Love Story . Now, in Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Aurangzeb , Jackie teamed up with Anil’s nephew Arjun Kapoor. Being a part of the film was exciting for Jackie because he was working with YRF and his Aurangzeb co-star Amrita Singh 20 years after Aaina . About Arjun Kapoor, Jackie says, “He's like my kid. I would love to work with him again. His personality, his killer looks and his height are just great. He is a fantastic actor.”
