Actor Mohanlal, in his new avatar as a soldier, appeared every bit a battle-ready jawan as he underwent weapons training at the 122 Infantry Battalion unit stationed here on Friday.

Lt. Col. (Hon.) Mohanlal mixed easily with other soldiers and officers of the Territorial Army unit when he joined them as part of the two-day training programme for him that began in the morning on Friday. Wearing camouflage uniform, Mr. Mohanlal was trained in the use of a family of infantry arms belonging to the Indian Small Arms System. Battalion Commanding Officer Col. Davidson Kolath, second-in-command Lt. Col. Karan Bhagat, Major Muneesh Bharadwaj, Subedar Major H. Vijayan were present as Mr. Mohanlal was given training in the use of assault rifle and light machine gun, among others.

The actor reached the battalion station on March 25 for his post-commission training required on his being ccommissioned as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel. He had already completed pre-commission and commission training in the Army headquarters in New Delhi. The training programme in the battalion would continue on Saturday when he would attend a civic function being hosted to honour the battalion.

Additional District Magistrate P.K. Sudheer Babu said here that all arrangements for the function had been completed at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium, the venue of the reception. Ministers and people's representatives would attend the function.
