Ileana D’ Cruz on her modelling days, Barfi and more…
Ileana D’ Cruz had never imagined she would become an actor. “As a child I wanted to be a singer,” she says. And can she sing? “Yes...I think I can,” she laughs. She started out at 16 as a model in television commercials. Her first ad film was for Electrolux.
“A friend of my mother’s had secretly arranged a meeting with model and actor, Marc Robinson. Marc convinced me that I should give modelling a shot and that’s how it all began,” says Ileana. And by the time she was 18, she landed her first acting assignment as the lead in the Telugu film Devadasu. “Initially I had a lot of mugging up to do. But now it’s been five years and I can manage Telugu well.”
After winning two awards for Barfi!, her debut film in Hindi, the Ileana is now working on her second Hindi venture — Phata Poster Nikla Hero with Shahid Kapoor. “It’s a spunky girl... completely different from what I did in Barfi!. There’s a lot of comedy. Shahid has got a fabulous role too,” she says. The movie is expected to release in mid-September.
Ileana, who is now the brand ambassador for Clear range of shampoos feels its bold tag line — Nothing to Hide says a lot about the product. “I use minimal stuff on my skin and hair. You shouldn’t dump too many products on your skin and hair. It can be harmful.”
As for fitness, the slender actor says that her regime includes Pilates. “I get a good workout with Yasmin, my trainer who has taught me quite a few variations and I can see a lot of difference in my body. Walking is also helpful.”
What’s next for the actor? “ I am superstitious about talking about projects before signing. You’ll get to hear something in the next few weeks,” she signs off with her dazzling smile.
