Indian American filmmaker Mira Nair’s upcoming drama Queen of Katwe , featuring Hollywood stars Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo, will be screened in India on October 7.

Based on real-life events, the Disney film chronicles the inspiring story of an underdog (Madia Nalwanga) from Katwe, Uganda. She is a young girl, whose world changes when she is introduced to the game of chess.

With the support of her family and community, she develops confidence and determination to pursue her dream to become an international chess champion.

The movie is set for its premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Nair’s last directorial venture was the feature adaptation of Mohsin Hamid’s book “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”.
