Most of Tamil cinema fans in their 30s and 40s grew up watching films featuring Mohan, the actor popularly known as ‘Mike’ Mohan and ‘Silver Jubilee’ Mohan. So, the actor was taken in by surprise when some ‘young’ fans of his got together and organised a fans’ meeting recently. “They were all in their twenties! I must thank God for keeping me alive in audiences’ hearts. More importantly, I must thank the parents of these children for raising them on a diet of my films and songs! Some of them know more about my films than me. They reel off statistics, compare roles…” he laughs.
During the meeting, the actor was requested to cut a cake and was gifted a small memento. But what gladdened him the most was the number of social service initiatives the group was doing in his name. “They have such faith in me and such love that it humbles me,” he says.
The actor, who played the lead in a spate of hit films with great music, has been maintaining a low profile, except for his involvement in the Chennai International Film Festival for some years now. “I still get at least three film offers a month. But nothing that has excited me enough to want to sign up for it,” he says. “The story is very important to me. That is why so many of my earlier films are still spoken about. I am particular about the production house too. That combination has to work out well,” he says.
The actor says he does not hold grudges about the lack of good offers coming his way, but adds that he will have some good news in January 2015. “I’m looking at some interesting projects,” he says.
