Sana Saeed on her forthcoming film ‘Student of the Year’ and how it feels to be back on the big screen
You missed out on a lot from the 90s if you don’t remember Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The school girl bangs have given way to long layers of hair, Sana Saeed is making a comeback in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year (SOTY). For the uninitiated Sana was first seen on a shampoo ad as a three-year-old and in fact this ad led her to bag the role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
What happened after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai? Sana says that she got occupied with her studies. “My parents insist on good education and I just decided to concentrate on completing my studies,” she says. Sana wasn’t completely off the grid and she worked in television shows like Baabul Ka Aangan Chootey Na and Lo Ho Gayi Pooja Is Ghar Ki.
With an advanced diploma in marketing and advertising and a shining resume full of internships and work experiences, Sana could be charting a short flight to the top of the corporate ladder. The allure of the big screen and her background in film and television got her to audition for the film. “You know what they say about work? That it shouldn’t feel like work. I want to follow that mantra. I really enjoy working in front of the camera. It feels like a breeze,” she says. Sana got accepted into a film course at NYU, she had to let go of her deposit because a Karan Johar film came calling yet again. “My life has pretty much been shaped by a Karan Johar film. This offer was too good to resist,” she says. Meeting Karan on the sets and familiar faces like Mickey Contracter, Farah Khan, “they asked me about my parents and they knew me, it was like I never vanished,” says Sana.
The 24-year-old confesses that the ‘Anjali’ image continues to haunt and tease her. “My parents teased me so much,” she laughs. While her friends and family weren’t too surprised with her filmy hoopla.
