After being shipwrecked in Madagascar and getting to explore their roots in Africa, this time around the fab four — Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, Marty the zebra and Melman the giraffe — decide to go to Monte Carlo, round up the penguins and get home to Central Park.

Of course things don't go as planned and they end in a circus led by Vitaly, the tiger with an accent and attitude.

Others in the circus include Stephano, a sea lion with average intelligence and a dream of being shot out of a cannon, Gia a jaguar and Sonia, the bear with a passion for little frilly skirts and bikes.

There is no chance of getting home unless the circus manages to put up a cracker of a show to impress a promoter and get a contract to perform in the US.

While Alex is trying to impress Gia with his trapeze a la Americano and Gloria is teaching Melman to dance on the tightrope, there is a threat from Chantel DuBois, from the animal control, who has vowed to hunt them down.

All comes right in the end with a swirl of colour, action and song.

While Madagascar 3 offers nothing new, it offers 85 minutes of fun with some smart lines, colourful action and a chance to spend some more time with our favourite castaways.
